Is it worth repairing an old opener?
Often yes. Gears, capacitors, sensors, remotes and logic boards are all serviceable parts. Replacement makes more sense once a unit is past roughly fifteen years, or if it predates modern safety reversing requirements.
My remote stopped working, is that the opener?
Usually not. Start with the remote battery, then reprogramming. If the wall button works and two remotes do not, the receiver in the opener is the next suspect.
