Smart Garage Door Opener Installation in Las Vegas

A phone app does not lift the door. It presses the button and the opener does the rest, which is why smart garage door opener installation only pays off on a door that already runs properly. There are two ways to get app control: a new opener with the radio built in, or a controller added to the opener you already own. Prestige installs both, on any brand.

Two ways to get app control

The first is a controller added to the opener you already own. It does not replace the motor: it triggers the opener the way the wall button does, while a sensor on the top panel reports whether the door is open or closed. Chamberlain and LiftMaster call their system myQ, Genie calls theirs Aladdin Connect. The second is a new opener with the radio built in, which is the simpler answer when the motor is near the end of its life anyway. Replacing the motor itself is covered on the opener installation page.

What decides compatibility

Four things: the age and model on the motor label, whether the opener has a learn button, whether it has working photo eye sensors at the floor, and the wifi signal where the motor hangs rather than in the house. Openers old enough to predate photo eyes fall outside the retrofit kits, and an opener without them should never be given remote closing. Past that it is a question of which kit matches the motor, which is a two minute conversation once you read us the label.

What a good install leaves you with

The door balanced and the photo eyes clean and aligned before anything is connected, because closing a door from a phone closes it when nobody is standing there. Federal rules for unattended operation require an audible and visible warning before the door moves that way, so the feature is only safe on a door whose safety sensors work. In Las Vegas the dust that settles in those sensors is the usual reason an app reports a door that did not close.

Common questions

Can app control be added to an old opener?

Often, but not always. It comes down to the learn button, the photo eye sensors, and whether a kit exists for that motor. An opener with no safety sensors should not be given remote closing at all. Call (855) 866-4555 with the model number from the motor label and we will tell you which of the two routes fits.

Does it still work in a power cut?

No. The app needs your router and the internet, and both go down with the power. An opener with battery backup will still move the door, which is worth having through monsoon season, but you will be using the wall button or the remote rather than the phone.

Why does the app say the door is open when it is closed?

Usually the door position sensor rather than the door itself. The battery dies, the mount works loose in the heat, or the hub drops off the wifi. The other version, a door that will not close from the app, is normally a photo eye that is dusty or knocked out of line.
