RV Garage Door Openers in Las Vegas
The opener on an RV garage door is the part most likely to be wrong. A household trolley opener is rated for a seven or eight foot door, and the extension kits that stretch a retail unit to ten feet are usually the end of the line. Above that, a tall door needs a wall mounted jackshaft opener or a commercial operator, sized to the height and weight of the door it is lifting. Why the household opener is the wrong tool
A trolley opener pulls the top section along a rail on the ceiling. On a tall door the rail has to be extended to match the door height, the trolley travels further under a heavier load, and on a high lift or vertical lift track there is often no room for a rail at all. The motor is also rated for the weight of a household door. Doubling the door height roughly doubles the weight, and the balance springs are doing most of the lifting only when they are correctly sized. The result is an opener that runs hot, wears its drive gear and quits.
Jackshaft openers and commercial operators for RV doors
A jackshaft opener mounts on the wall beside the torsion shaft and turns the shaft directly, so there is no rail and no trolley, and the ceiling is no longer the constraint. Residential jackshaft models carry a rated maximum door height and weight from the manufacturer, and the light commercial version of the same opener shares those limits: it is rated for more cycles a day, not for a bigger door. A door above those limits gets a medium duty commercial jackshaft or hoist operator, the same idea in a heavier housing, usually with a chain hoist so the door can be worked by hand in a power outage. Which one fits comes down to the door height, its total weight, and how many times a day it moves.
Balance first, motor second
No opener is designed to lift the door. The springs lift the door; the opener moves a balanced load. On a sixteen foot door that difference is several hundred pounds, so every opener install starts by checking that the door sits still at half height with the opener disconnected. An unbalanced tall door will destroy a new opener within a season, and it is the first thing we check on a call about an opener that strains.
Safety on a door this size
Photo eyes at the floor, or a monitored door edge, and the automatic reverse are required on any residential opener, and they matter more when the door is a wall of steel. Openers that allow closing from a phone must also give an audible and visible warning before the door moves. On a jackshaft opener the manufacturer usually requires a cable tension monitor as well, because a slack cable on a tall door is how a section ends up on the floor.
