Garage Door Tune Up and Maintenance in Las Vegas
Most garage door emergencies announce themselves for weeks first. A tune up is the cheap visit that catches the fraying cable and the tired spring before either becomes a Saturday morning without a car.
Signs you need this
- The door has got noisier over the last few months
- It jerks, shudders or hesitates on the way up
- It has never been serviced
- The door does not stay put when stopped halfway
What a tune up covers
Balance test with the opener disconnected, spring tension, cable and drum condition, roller and hinge wear, track alignment and fixings, opener force and travel limits, photo eye alignment, and lubrication of the moving parts with something that will not attract Las Vegas dust.
The balance test you can do yourself
Close the door, pull the release cord, and lift the door by hand to waist height. A correctly balanced door stays roughly where you left it. If it drops or flies up, the spring tension is wrong and the opener has been compensating for it. That is worth a call before it becomes a breakage.

Common questions
How often should a garage door be serviced?
Once a year for a typical household. Twice a year is reasonable for a door cycled many times a day, or one on a dusty lot.
What should I use to lubricate the door?
A garage door specific silicone or lithium spray on rollers, hinges and springs. Avoid general purpose penetrating oil: it thins out, runs off and collects the fine dust the Valley is full of.
