When the door will not open and you need to get out

The single most important thing to know is that a door with a broken spring is not a door you should try to lift. The springs carry the weight, not the opener, and when a spring lets go the door is suddenly as heavy as it really is, which on a double door is well beyond what it is safe to handle by hand. If the door is part way up it can also come down. Leave it where it is and call.
A loud bang from the garage and a door that will not move that is almost always a spring. Do not pull the release cord and do not try to lift it.
The red release cord it disconnects the door from the opener so the door can be moved by hand. It is only useful when the springs are intact, for example in a power cut.
Re-engaging after a power cut pull the cord again and run the opener, and the trolley re-latches on the next pass. If it does not, the opener needs looking at rather than forcing.
